This integration of multifaceted data enables archaeologists to pinpoint the exact location of a fossil at any moment, while also granting access to its historical documentation whenever needed, thus providing valuable support for ongoing research.

Boosting Archaeological Efficiency

The implementation of RFID tags has remarkably simplified on-site archaeological work. Thanks to RFID-based identification, tasks that would typically take 20 to 30 minutes can now be accomplished in just two or three minutes.

This enhancement not only conserves significant labor and time during excavations but also establishes a strong groundwork for subsequent activities such as data organization, artifact preservation, and exhibition setup. Especially in challenging environments with limited network availability, the RFID system excels in offline data collection, automatically syncing information once connectivity is restored to maintain data accuracy.

Despite the notable successes of RFID technology in archaeology, certain challenges remain in its implementation. Variations in materials among fossils necessitate the careful selection of appropriate tags, while poor network connectivity at remote sites can hinder data synchronization. Experts are actively working on more effective strategies to overcome these obstacles.

In cases where fossils differ in material composition, choosing the right RFID tags is crucial. The offline data collection capability ensures that data integrity is maintained even in areas with unreliable network access.

Looking ahead, as RFID technology evolves and aligns seamlessly with GIS, the Internet of Things, and big data, its potential applications in archaeology and cultural heritage preservation are expected to broaden significantly. Researchers are also engaging in discussions about extending RFID use to various excavation sites and artifact management initiatives, aiming for a global revolution in digital archaeological governance.
